Therapy through Meaning and Purpose
I am here to help you live the life God intended for you by providing
biblically based counseling for individuals, couples, and families.
Galatians 6:2-"Carry each other’s burdens, and in
this way you will fulfill the law of Christ
Existential therapy is an attitudinal approach which, “...examines
individuals awareness of themselves and their ability to look beyond
their immediate problems...” (Sharf, 2008). Its premise is
to promote personal empowerment and human growth. The ultimate goal
for any human being is to find the purpose of their existence and
pursue it (Frankl as cited in Sharf, 2008). Understanding the meaning
of one’s existence is believed to be the most fundamental
drive for any individual, “Life is not primarily a quest for
pleasure, as Freud believed, or a quest for power, as Alfred Adler
taught, but a quest for meaning. The greatest task for any person
is to find meaning in his or her life” (Kushner, as cited
in Frankl 2006). Examining our lives and moving toward self-actualization
is a sign of a healthy human, it is the essence of what makes us
truly human. Striving toward something greater than themselves is
the existential nature of human beings; that is, we have the complex
ability to transcend our immediate situation.
After spending a number of years at Point Park College and CCAC
where I studied Psychology. I received my bachelor’s degree
in Community Ministry from Geneva College. I completed my internship
requirements working at Dorothy Day Apartments, a housing ministry
for single mothers in the Lincoln/Lemington section of Pittsburgh,
PA. Upon graduating from Geneva, I worked as an Assessment Specialist
and addictions counselor serving adolescent females in a 108 bed
residential treatment program. In addition to individual therapy,
I facilitated various therapeutic treatment groups such as Women’s
Issues, Survivors of Abuse (sexual), Anger Management, Abuse and
Relationships, Stress management and Drug and Alcohol Education
and Prevention.
I am currently a Master’s student at Waynesburg University
where I am pursuing a degree in Christian Counseling. I fulfilled
my practicum requirements at Auberle in McKeesport servicing adolescent
males on the mental health unit providing individual, group, and
family therapy sessions. Currently I am employed as an addictions
counselor at Discovery House of PA.
My goal is to reunite your inner spirit with a higher sense of
purpose and wellbeing in Christ. I achieve this through psychotherapy,
relaxation techniques, and the application of spiritual disciplines.
